Paul Inglis | Natural History Photographer
Paul Inglis is a Natural History Photographer who shoots a diverse range of images covering most genres from the smallest fly through to mountains and everything else in between. He resides in the Isle of Man which lies in the Irish Sea, between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, less than 60 miles west of the Lancashire coastline. It is 33 miles long, 13 miles wide and covers an area of 227 square miles. The habitat diversity on the Isle of Man is quite extreme with more than 40% of the Island remaining uninhabited. Its wetlands and heathlands are best known but its coastland is also very rich and diverse along with its many Glens and Wooded areas. The highest ‘mountain’ stands just over 2,036 feet high and the hill-lands also offer as much diversity.
Ornithologists the world over have long recognised the Isle of Man for its Birds, a reputation well deserved but the Manx countryside offers much more than that. Naturalists are provided with a veritable feast of Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Bugs, Fish, Insects, Butterflies, Moths, Spiders, Molluscs, Crustaceans, Invertebrates, Fauna, Flora, Plants and Pond Life. The Manx marine life is equally spectacular such as swimming with the sharks!
It is hardly surprising that Paul has come to consider the Island as one grand nature reserve and most of his images are shot here, because along every road, through every village and town, around every bend you turn; it's there, staring you in the face.

There are numerous Natural History Societies, Trusts and Groups that can provide information along with the Manx Museum containing an excellent section on Natural History. There is great enthusiasm amongst Manx Naturalists and a number of experts reside on the Island itself. Not without good reason!
Supplementary
The Island is a unique self-governing kingdom – a Crown dependency which belongs to neither the UK nor the European Union. It has its own parliament (called Tynwald), laws, traditions, culture, cuisine and postage stamps. Furthermore it has its own Manx language and currency (though English is the spoken tongue and UK currencies are accepted everywhere).
